This painting is a tribute to all the women in my life that have supported me in more ways than I could ever describe in words.
While this may only capture a small group of the many more roles, shapes, colors, sizes and ages of the beautiful women in this world, its inspiration is a dedication to every woman and their inner power, regardless of their looks.
When I was a little girl, they came up with these cute cut out dolls you could attach different paper outfits with a little tab. We didn’t have much so I was never able to purchase them so I would make my own. I used to love drawing figurines like these and their outfits out of paper with those tabs so I could cut out and attach the different outfits to them. I made this painting because I wanted to remember how far I’ve come from that little, scary and skinny, super timid girl from El Salvador.
I’ve been blessed with the support of many women in my life from my 3 sisters, my mom, teachers, many aunts, amazing longtime friends, and co-workers that saw in me the beauty, brains and strength I didn’t see in myself when I needed it the most.
I am thankful for all the progress and the work of those that have paved the way for us as women today.
It’s up to us to continue to empower other women, believe in ourselves and what we are capable of with the resources we have TODAY.
Society is still learning and much work still needs to be done for equality and women’s rights but as I stand with you today, I believe we have the power in ourselves to do whatever we feel we are meant to do in this world as woman, mothers and all the truest most honest parts of who we truly are.
